JAMAICA WILL THIS evening meet guest team Canada in the semi-finals of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Under-15 Youth Cup.
Canada on Tuesday shot past the Netherlands Antilles 6-0 and Guatemala brushed aside St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) 4-0 to secure eye-catching results entering the last four.
Guatemala will face hosts Trinidad and Tobago, who netted two second-half goals in a 2-1 win over Suriname in their match at the Marvin Lee Stadium.
At the Dwight Yorke Stadium in Tobago, Canada scored three goals on either side of the halftime against the Dutch boys.
Greg Smith opened the scoring in minute 22 with a superbly struck shot. Christopher Sheriffe (42nd) and Mohammed Sylla (45th) then stretched the lead beyond reach just before the half break.
Sylla scored again five minutes into the second half, before Antonio Rago (60th) and Cristobal Robles (78th) sealed the fine win for the Canadians.
Jamaica's young Reggae Boyz, the tournament's heaviest scorers in the preliminaries with 40 goals, advanced with a Chris Waugh goal in the 79th minute that beat Martinique 1-0.
The tournament is a requirement of the CFU to fulfil its mandate to develop youth football to compete beyond the region and to ensure that Caribbean youngsters with talent are given the opportunity to excel.
The tournament will be played every year, but will alternate between Under-15 and Under-16 age-groups to match the schedule for the qualification round of matches in the FIFA Under-17 World Championships.
