REAL SALT LAKE (RSL) General Manager Steve Pastorino has announced that his US Major League Soccer (MLS) club will host top Jamaican team Harbour View in a friendly match at Rice-Eccles Stadium on August 24.
The idea for the contest against the reigning Caribbean Club Champions emerged during discussions regarding the transfer of former Harbour View FC defender Robert Scarlett to Real Salt Lake and the MLS.
Embracing the fixture, Pastorino said he expects the fans to enjoy the show the star-studded Harbour View squad should give.
"The success of Jamaican players in MLS and Europe has much to do with the talent that Harbour View has developed over the past decade," he said in an RSL website story.
"The club, led by GM Clyde Jureidini and coach Donovan Hayles, will bring a distinct and entertaining style to Rice-Eccles Stadium," Pastorino added.
Harbour View's contributions to MLS include Onandi Lowe, Fabian Talyor, Damani Ralph, Wolde Harris and Scarlett and Jamaica's 2005 Gold Cup team included several key players from the Kingston-based club, including Jermaine Hue, Jermaine Taylor and Luton Shelton.
"I am pleased for our next international friendly to be played against a club of this calibre," said RSL Head Coach John Ellinger.
"Harbour View battled well against D.C. United in this spring's CONCACAF Champions Cup, and we are excited to showcase our talents and their squad before our fans," Ellinger added.
