The EDITOR, Madam:
Miss St. Mary Yasheika Blackwood was most unfortunate not to have won the recently concluded crowning of the Miss Jamaica Festival Queen Competition 2005. Anybody who watched the competition in its entirety would endorse my view. There was only one true ambassador on the night in question. It was quite obvious.
The win by Miss Kingston and St. Andrew is a major set back to Miss St. Mary. The win is a foregone conclusion or preconceived win by the judges.
Miss Kingston and St Andrew, Sashane McDonald, might be of scholastic excellence and definitely has requisites to be assumed brilliant to have such a resume. Still, the grit and determination expected to be exercised by her was absent on the night.
I was totally flabbergasted by the judges' ultimate decision. I was at a loss. I guess the physique of Miss Blackwood sent her packing because she toppled the most talented as a sectional prize and undoubtedly was the most transparent, explicit and eloquent person on the night.
It seems as if to be an ambassador to our glorious isle, you will have to be from a certain status quo. No disrespect to Miss Marsha Barnett, she was a deserving ambassador to the Jamaican populace both at home and abroad. She also did a tremendous job in representing us by showcasing her wonderful talents during her tenure.
Miss Barnett, you were exemplary, absolutely splendid and magnificent.
Cherry o girl, and wipe your tears from your eyes Miss St. Mary. The energy you demonstrated was enough evidence to substantiate that you wanted the title more.
I am etc.,
