Lloyd in vice presidency battle

THE CONTEST FOR the post of vice president is expected to take centre stage at the West Indies Cricket Board's (WICB) annual general meeting scheduled for St. Maarten on Sunday.

Former West Indies captain and manager Clive Lloyd will oppose Val Banks of Anguilla in what is expected to be a keen battle.

Lloyd chose to run for the post of vice-president after he failed in his bid to secure a nomination for the post of president.

His battle with Banks will take precedence over the elections for the position of president since Ken Gordon's name was the lone nomination put forward, after the incumbent Teddy Griffith indicated he would be stepping down after his term ended.

According to a WICB release Thursday, other items on the agenda of the AGM include the consideration of the audited financial statements, report of the directors and auditors for the year ended September 30, 2004 and the election of directors nominated by members.

On the day prior to the AGM, WICB directors will hold their third regular meeting for 2005.

The items on their agenda include consideration of the audited financial statements, report of the sponsorship negotiation review committee, report of the constitutional review committee and the report of the development sub-committee.

The West Indies Women's Cricket Federation, the West Indies Cricket Umpires' Association and the West Indies Players' Association are all expected to submit special member reports.

An update on the status of preparations for the 2007 World Cup will be given and 2005 and 2006 tour schedules will also be confirmed.
