Wrong to ban Bounty, Buju

THE EDITOR, Madam:

I am very surprised at the management of Reggae Sumfest for their action against Bounty Killer and Buju Banton. It is clear that these two artistes were banned because of their views. It is wrong and it's also a shame that Reggae Sumfest is trying to control the message that comes out of these artistes.

To fine an artiste for cursing is OK, but to ban them because of their views is wrong. Reggae music has long been a tool for people to freely express their views.

I have been travelling to Jamaica to attend Sumfest for years. This was my first year not attending. I really hope you people making these decisions really know the size of the tide you are swimming against.

We will not support an organisation in Jamaica that tries to limit our freedom of speech, or one that tries to be the VALVE to our music. Reggae has been around long before Sumfest and it will be around long after Sumfest. These two artistes have always stood up for the people in Jamaica and I know the people will stand with them because of your unbalanced decisions. I really hope other artistes will notice how you try and control their message.

You are letting these sponsors control who you put on stage and what they say while on stage. If you go along with this ban you cannot turn around and say you are not part of it.

Don't forget that every person counts, so you telling me you don't need me is a wrong way to deal with this major dent in Sumfest. Instead of attacking us, the FANS, you should attack your sponsors and their foolish reasoning.
