MICHAEL LAOE, THE man accused of having his wife doused with acid at the Constant Spring Tax Office has been charged with murder after his wife Charmaine Laoe died on Sunday night.
Laoe was charged with murder yesterday after his wife, 39-year-old Charmaine Laoe died in the University Hospital on Sunday night at 10:45 p.m. from the burns she received to her body on Friday June 10. Police are contending that Laoe had a hand in the incident in which the dead woman received third degree burns to 40 per cent of her body.
The police were unable to give any additional information on Laoe's death as the post-mortem has not yet been done.
Allegations are that on June 10 at about 8:30 a.m., the dead woman, who is Laoe's wife, was doused with acid after getting off a bus and entering the compound of the Constant Spring Tax Office. The woman, who is originally from Portland, was badly burnt and the man who allegedly doused her was chased and beaten to death by a mob.
Michael Laoe was originally charged with aiding and abetting and conspiracy occasioning grievous bodily harm after he handed himself over to the police several days later. He is still in custody and a court date for him to answer to the murder charges is yet to be set.
