AFTER A BRIEF hiatus from the music business to deal with "personal matters", deejay Lady Saw admits that she is now in a 'happy place' where her career and life are concerned.
"I was kinda down, I had a situation, it was very personal and I don't want to discuss it, but I am happy now and I will be happy- happy again soon. I got sad, but I am going to make everything right again. I am going to be alright," she said.
Lady Saw's most recent hit, I've Got Your Man made its debut on the 'New Joint' segment of the BET programme '106 & Park' a few months ago and got excellent rotation on BET as well as local channels.
Chilling
"I have been chilling for a while, I have still been working now and then, doing favours for friends, doing charity shows and such. I had planned to take a break but I had to do those shows, I went abroad and did a couple of shows, in Canada, New York and Connecticut, and now I am back," she told THE STAR.
There has been a lot of speculation in recent weeks in dancehall circles about Saw's ''personal matters". When Saw was contacted by THE STAR she refused to comment on this but proudly spoke about her eldest adopted daughter who is now 18, and is still in high school.
"She is looking forward to going to college, she wants to be a veterinarian, but I spend a lot of money on my dogs, I have 13 of them, I am a dog-lover, so I know she can make money, but mi ah advise her fi become a lawyer, that's where the real money is," she said.
Saw has adopted two boys as well.
While she has taken some time off to enjoy her life, Saw threw down the gauntlet to a "certain female deejay" who she claims has been dogging her behind her back.
"I don't care about negativity, b.....s been talking but I don't care, not begging dinner. They know I am the darling, ..., the artiste groupie that is talking a lot, everyone knows her, and I couldn't careless about her," she said.
Stable love life
In the meantime Saw says her love life remains stable as she admits to "still being in love" with her boyfriend of 11 years, noted producer "John John".
Asked if she planned to get married soon, she responded with typical good humour: "When we reach 50, and the man have arthritis and caan go nowhere...I have my mad days, and we get miserable and cuss but we love each other."
She has also been dabbling in producing as well.
"I just came out with riddim, 'Rush' which features me, Beenie Man, Cecile, Sizzla, Capleton, and have a couple of other rhythms in the works with other artistes who did not appear on 'Rush'," she said.
In the meantime, she will continue to produce and record at her own pace. She just completed a song that has created quite a buzz in the underground dancehall market, "Welcome to My World' with Beenie Man.
Lady Saw celebrated her 36th birthday on July 12th,"Yes, mi no fraid fi talk mi age, mi ah 36 looking like 16, and feeling like a virgin. The old woman no ketch me up yet, she caan find my address, but she find some gal roun ere and beat dem wid the old stick, heh heh," she said, laughing.
Same old saw. Sharp and rowdy as ever. All hail the queen of the dancehall.
