IT WAS DOUBLE delight for the fans of Sizzla that turned out for Red Stripe Reggae Sumfest on Thursday night at the Catherine Hall Entertainment Centre in Montego Bay.
In addition to his performance at Dancehall Night, the capacity-filled venue was wowed by an announcement from rap mogul and Rocawear CEO, Damon Dash, that he had signed Sizzla to his DDMG Records label.
"It's official...we are going to be doing great things with Sizzla," Dash announced on stage at the five-day festival.
Sizzla was in his element during his performance delivering an energetic performance and unleashing a string of hits to the over zealous crowd whose craving for his music seemed insatiable. The high energy performance obviously impressed Dash and his entourage, who had travelled into the island from the United States to watch the singer's set.
Some of the other artistes had seemed tentative in their performances given the organiser's strict warnings to refrain from profanity and any attack on any group.
"...It was the second Dancehall Night in history that was free of any expletives or indecent language and patrons had a great time," said Robert Russell, Director of Summerfest Productions, organisers of Reggae Sumfest.
"All the stall owners reported brisk sales, actually all of them were sold out when I checked after the show ended at daybreak this morning."
The night also saw good performances from Turbulence, Elephant Man, Lady Saw, Macka Diamond, Voisemail, Kip Rich,
Shane O, Little Hero, Bascom X, Lutan Fyah, I Wayne and Twins of Twins.
