Phony cop charged with stealing squad car

A 17-YEAR-OLD youth charged with stealing a police car and impersonating the police appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

The teen appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate Martin Gayle, who ordered a probation report be done on him. His mother told the court that her son had started acting strangely a few days before the police car was stolen and has been smoking ganja.

Smoking ganja

She told the court that one of her son's friends told her that he was smoking ganja mixed with camphor balls and frankincense.

The teen pleaded guilty with explanation for driving away a motor car and impersonating a police officer. However, the charge of impersonating a police officer was withdrawn by RM Gayle who said he does not see how he could have fooled anyone he was a police officer.

Allegations against the youth are that on July 4, he stole a police car from the Admiral Town Police Station and drove it to the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court. He was taken into custody at the courthouse after he began acting suspiciously. He was was taken to the Half-Way Tree Police Station where he was questioned and charged.
