Woman needs prosthetic leg

Patricia Campbell - rudolph brown

PATRICIA CAMPBELL, a gunshot victim, urgently needs prosthesis to replace her right leg that was blown to pieces by a gunman almost 10 years ago.

Campbell, whose leg had to be amputated, has been using crutches. However this has caused the left side of her body to begin leaning downwards. "The doctor said the bone in my back is bent and it rubbing my nerve centre, so I need the surgery to balance myself again," she said.

No match found

She has been to the Mona Rehabilitation Centre where she has been fitted for several prosthetic legs. However, they could not find a match. She has however found an organisation overseas which has donated one and volunteered to do the surgery. Doctor Joel Posner of the Montefiore Medical Group in New York which is facilitating the surgery, says he expects Campbell to be in the United States by August 30.

Expensive trip

Campbell, however, has no money to pay to get a passport, visa and other expenses that would be associated with her trip.

"I am just asking for any donations to help me to get the surgery," Campbell said.

She is also unable to work due to her leg condition and what she describes as the continued threat from her attackers. The threat has forced her to go into hiding.

An account has been opened at the National Commercial Bank (NCB) in Kingston where donations towards her surgery can be made. The number is 104056849.
