Heed the spoken word, Mr Prime Minister

Percival Patterson - file

THE EDITOR, Madam:

The Honourable Marcus Garvey in one of his retorts stated, "the deeds we do must make the race and push the nation forward and when we gained the honoured place we forge ahead and never stop."

Honourable Elijah Muhammad in one of his retorts stated, "words make man and words destroy man, words form pictures in man's mind, when you hear a word or you read a word when you digest those words, those words circle the brain 34 billion times, then those words become your thoughts and your thoughts determine your words and action and your words are your bond and your bond is your life and by your action you shall be judged."

I am challenging Prime Minister P.J. Patterson to give serious consideration to these sayings and give honour to his words of making "cost sharing" - paying of school entrance fee a thing of the past by 2005 which is now in its seventh month.

Prime Minister Patterson's promise to make cost sharing a thing of the past by 2005 was made during the People's National Party election campaign of 2002. Well the Prime Minister should certainly know that the spoken words cannot be taken back and that sorry doesn't always make things right.

I am, etc.,

ALLAN MARTIN
