MICHAEL LAOE, THE man charged in connection with dousing his wife with acid, was remanded before Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's court yesterday.
Laoe, scheduled to reappear on July 27, is answering charges of aiding and abetting, conspiracy and assault occasioning grievous bodily harm.
Allegations are that Laoe, 40, a battery technician, conspired with another man to attack his wife on June 10. About 8:30 a.m., the complainant was on her way to work at the Constant Spring Tax Office, when on approaching the gate of her work place, she was approached by a man who doused her with acid. Onlookers chased the attacker and beat him to death.
The complainant suffered third degree burns to more than 40 per cent of her body and is still recuperating.
Laoe turned himself over to the police on Friday, June 24.
On Laoe's last court visit, June 29, his lawyer, Althea Grant applied for bail, saying her client was at home at the time of the incident and he turned himself over to the police. RM Pusey was not impressed with the argument.
