Richardo and Rickardo - contributed
IT'S NOT OFTEN that fifteen-year-old boys are seen as conscientious and enterprising. However, such terms aptly describe the character traits of twin brothers, Richardo and Rickardo Steele. The identical twins are from Treadways, in Linstead, St. Catherine.
The boys, who are grade nine students at Linstead Primary and Junior High School, have similar tastes. They love attending school and list their favourite subjects as mathematics and social studies.
Rickardo's favourite games are cricket, football and tennis, while Richardo loves cricket, football and basketball. Both are gravitating towards becoming mechanics. Richardo, the more talkative of the two explained to THE STAR that they developed the love for cars after assisting their step-father with minor repairs to the car.
They say they rarely fuss with each other, as they believe in being peaceful. The boys also say that after school they waste no time in getting home as they have been warned of the increase in the criminal activities in the town.
When they get home from school their mother, Miss Luneth Menzie, says they are helpful with household chores. She says they are also involved in small scale farming and usually sell some of the produce. In addition, she says her sons assist persons in the community to fill bags with saw dust.
She spoke glowingly of how thrifty they are and revealed that there were times when she does not have the money to send them to school but they replied; "Don't worry Mommy, we have money."
She added with emotion creeping into her voice "... they are good boys, they give no problem."
Their teacher, Miss Georgina Scott, spoke of how the boys are quiet and mannerly.
Their similarities also include their physical appearance. Miss Menzie says that on close observation, Richardo's face is slightly rounder than Rickardo's but that aside, it is not easy to distinguish between them. The boys have two sisters.
