Cop killed in 'Spain'

spanish town

A 54-YEAR-OLD police sergeant was shot dead on Oxford Street, Spanish Town, St. Catherine, yesterday. He is Everette Kildere of the Greater Portmore Police Station.

Reports are that about 9:30 a.m., Kildere was a patron at a bar when two men entered. Both drew handguns and shot the lawman several times in the face. He died on the spot.

Kildere's death brings to 13, the number of policemen killed since the start of the year and the third from the St. Catherine South Division, following the death of Inspector Lascelles Walsh and Constable Michael Francis, both of whom were killed by gunmen.

Several members of the police hierarchy led by Deputy Commissioner Mark Shields who heads the crime portfolio, visited the scene of the Kildere's murder. The gunmen reportedly escaped with Mr. Kildere's service firearm.
