TWO MEN ARE being questioned by the Savanna-la-Mar police in connection with the discovery of the bodies of two little girls in a cane field in Town Head district, Westmoreland, yesterday.

The bodies of the children, who went missing in the district on Wednesday, were found in the cane field yesterday morning while one of the suspects was beaten by a group of residents.

The dead children have been identified as Shaneka Shakes, nine and Shanna Kaye Ledgister, eight, both of Town Head.

According to reports from the Constabulary Communication Network liaison officer for Westmoreland, at about 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, both girls left home for school. When they did not return home as expected residents searched the area and found the bodies of the two girls.

A man who was accused of abducting the girls was attacked and beaten by a group of persons. Members of a police party rescued the man. However the tyres of the vehicle were slashed by the mob. The police, however, managed to drive away. A second man was later taken into custody.
