The Editor, Madam:
The circumstances surrounding the death of the little six-year-old girl in May are really heart-rending and pitiful.
Some heads of children organisation got up and made statements and then sat back and that's that; they have done their duty. Church leaders get a topic for their sermons and some persons say a section of the society did not hold a meeting when it took place.
Why can't someone print pamphlets of the little girl's picture, go within the area the crime was committed and hand out these to passers-by, motorists, or place on windshield wipers? Quite likely someone might recognise the picture and remember the person he/she saw with the child. Do something tangible instead of just talking, issuing statements and preaching.
Our children are in such peril today; life has become dangerous for them no one to care. It is like they are left alone to think out life for themselves as if they are adults. There is no proper guidance. Instead of gradually emerging to the different stages of life under the watchful eyes of the adults, these babies are left to fend for themselves.
Many are dying or injured in road accidents due to careless driving, others are being killed by the gun, knives, fire; others suffer sexual and physical abuse. We need more responsible adults to care.
I am etc.,
M. PEART
