SEVERAL WOMEN DISRUPTED the proceedings of the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday as Donald 'Zekes' Phipps was transported from the facility.
The women had gathered across the road from the court when he arrived and cheered him on. But, when he was leaving the cheers got louder, so loud that it became difficult to hear another case going on.
'Yeah. See him deh, see him deh,' they shouted as Zekes was transported away amid a strong detachment of police and soldiers.
Inside the court, Zekes was remanded in custody when he appeared before Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey. Phipps is before the courts on a charge of two counts of murder.
His attorney K. Churchill Neita said he had not applied for bail. He said he would renew his application for bail on behalf of his client when he reappeared on July 6.
Phipps is before the court in connection with murders of the two men, Rodney Leroy Farqharson and Dayton Williams of Bayshore Park in east Kingston. Their burnt bodies were discovered on April 15, in an open lot at Rose Lane, a community that neighbours Matthews Lane.
Phipps was arrested in connection with their deaths and charged with murder. The diminutive Phipps also faces charges for unlawful possession of over $18 million, which was found by police at his upper St. Andrew home on May 21.
Since October last year, Phipps has appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court quite frequently. His woes began last October when his store at Matthews Lane was searched by police.
The raid yielded over $9 million, 900 grams of ganja, 26 rounds of ammunition and a quantity of pharmaceuticals. He was charged for illegal possession of ganja, ammunition and pharmaceuticals.
