Rum Punch...a total knockout

By TEINO EVANS, Staff Reporter

Razz and Biggy - FILE

RUM PUNCH WAS a total knockout party, as patrons retreated to the Boonhall Oasis in Stony Hill last Sunday evening to partake in the 'hard funkin river party'.

The jungle-like atmosphere in the midst of a riverbed, the musical selections of a number of top sounds and rum mixes at ridiculously discounted prices, comprised most of the ingredients that catapulted patrons on a high party vibe.

Earlier in the day, free rum punch was served from as early as 3 p.m. until 6 p.m., before switching to the $50 rum mixes.

Couples could be spotted amidst the trees, getting on wild, as inhibitions were freed. Wining to the ground and exposing the little that would have otherwise been left to the imagination, was the order of the night for many females, who turned out in skimpy attire. One female patron, however, took it to the extreme, as she came clad in nothing but a bikini, while another was dressed in only a g-string and tank top with a revealing mesh wrap.

Musical high

Selectors, including the likes of Razz and Biggy, Renaissance, Copper Shot, Code Red and others, made sure that patrons remained on a musical high, as they spun tunes from the early nineties into some of the most current hot tracks. Dancehall and hip-hop music were interchanged on the turntables, as selectors wasted no time in building a vibes and making way for their colleagues.

From dancehall hot picks like Beenie Man's King Of The Dancehall and TOK's Footprints, to hip hop old school tunes like Snoop Dogg's Gin And Juice, were just a few of the tunes that patrons enjoyed while getting their groove on. In addition, a series of dance tunes by the likes of Elephant Man, Voisemail and Beenie, led patrons into a dancing frenzy.

Selections by the Twin of Twins got patrons into such a frenzy that some let a few shots rip.

The police, at one point, even had to intervene, taking the selector's microphone and warning that any more firearm use would cause the event to be shut down.

But if patrons were not feeling the music, there were other attractions to keep them occupied, including tattooing and body piercing. Many females flocked this section of the venue where they had various designs tattooed on different parts of their body for a small cost.

The night ended on a relatively good note, with the exception of a minor disturbance which resulted in the police and security forces chasing some men across the venue. This stirred fear in a few patrons who immediately made their way through the exit, while others who were too drunk to notice, continued to dance and party like there was no tomorrow.

At the end of the night, however, the tired looks and the drunkenness that prevailed in some cases, were all possible signs that patrons had a great time.
