Robbery possible motive in man's death

THE MYSTERY OF the dead senior citizen is the newest case baffling the police in Port Antonio.

On June 22, at about 8:30 a.m., the decomposing body of 73-year-old Leonard Taylor, 'Jewman', was found at his home in Redhaven, Port Antonio.

Reports from Detective Corporal Clyde Nicholson of the Port Antonio CIB are that neighbours summoned the police after they missed him that morning and there was no answer to his phone.

Mr. Taylor was last seen alive at 9:00 p.m. on Monday night.

When the police reached the scene they found the gates and doors of the premises locked. They entered the yard by climbing over the wall. According to Nicholson, it was Mr. Alfonso McFarlene who it is alleged has power of attorney, who used a building block to break the door.

Initial inspection of the victim revealed that Mr. Taylor was stabbed below the jaw beside the left ear.

According to Nicholson, there were also stab wounds to the back of his head along with a 'jagged wound' for which no weapon has been identified. The body was removed to the morgue for post-mortem.

Although no motive has been established, the police are currently theorising robbery. It is alleged that Mr. Taylor visited Western Union on Monday, but the police have no evidence to support this.

A small gold chain and a black pouch, supposedly containing money and documents, have not been found.
