THE FAMILY OF Claudia Millford, the 33-year-old blind woman who fell from the third floor of the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH) building and died on December 27, are yet to settle the matter with the hospital.
Mr. Norris Miller, Millford's brother said, "The hospital and the family's lawyer are still in dialogue over the situation; but I guess this is what happens when no one is willing to take responsibility."
Millford, a wife and mother of three, was a mentally ill patient, who was being treated at the KPH. It is reported that she was discovered missing from her ward at 6:00 a.m.
The Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) theorise that Millford wandered from her bed and fell from the third floor, breaking her neck.
In an interview with THE STAR, a representative from the hospital was asked about the current measures being taken to ensure that there was proper security in the building, so future accidents similar to Millford's do not occur, she said, "Both buildings housing patients are constructed with appropriate mitigating factors. They conform to the building standards for these types of buildings."
