THE EDITOR, Madam:
The issue of homosexuality has long been one of controversy in our country.
Invariably, same sex relationships are rapidly increasing in numbers across the island especially in the upper class grouping. Interestingly, a number of surveys have been carried out over the years and findings have revealed that most women who change their sexual orientation from that of a heterosexual to a homosexual often give the same reasons as justification for their actions.
The most popular answer given is that women are better able to understand other women's needs hence making them better lovers than men.
My take on this whole scenario is that this stance taken by these women is far from reality and quite frankly is a cliché. Upon evaluation of several interviews, it is quite evident that many of these women have, at some point in time, been hurt by a man hence them turning to another woman is merely a defence mechanism on their part.
My suggestion for these women who believe their spouses are not in tune with their needs is to communicate these needs to them because in truth, anything that a woman can do for another woman a man can do too. The irony is that male homosexuals never argue along this line of reasoning.
I am, etc.,
