THE PROPRIETORS OF B. A. Brown Hardware Centre in Spaldings, Clarendon are counting their losses after that business place was gutted by fire on Saturday afternoon.
The fire, which started at about 5:45 p.m., sent millions of dollars worth of goods up in smoke before the fire department could respond, leaving several persons including the owner of the building, which housed the Hardware store, Sylvia Reittie upset with the limping fire service.
It is reported that a Rapid Response unit from the Manchester capital as well as a fire unit from the Windalco plant at Kirkvine gave a helping hand some time after to fight the blaze which was put out some minutes after 8 p.m.
The hardware, operated by businessman Roy Brown, has been at the location for about five years. Brown said his goods were not insured. He said he will be carrying out cleaning up activities as quickly as possible and within a few days business should restart.
