The EDITOR, Madam:
Every year car manufacturers are modifying vehicles that can compete with sound waves, so cars are made faster and faster; and more speed means more accidents.
Whenever an accident occurs, people normally focus on the damage done to the vehicle. I don't want people to get the wrong idea that they shouldn't appreciate their vehicles. What I am really saying is that if there is an accident, the concern or the first question should be "if anyone involved in the accident is seriously injured" instead of "Hey look what you did to my vehicle".
The next problem is when motorists see the police, they are on their best behaviour following all the traffic laws as if they are doing an examination to get their licence. Why is that behaviour not carried out whenever the cops are absent? That kind of behaviour belongs to school children.
I think motorists should treat every other motorist, pedestrian and even animals in the same manner which they show the police and believe me the accidents on our nation's streets will be minimal. My conclusion is: reduce speed, respect everybody, try to preserve humanity as much as possible and the results will be a drastic cut in the nation's accidents.
I am, etc.,
