Being a true friend

Dear Pastor,

I am from Jamaica, but I now live in Florida. I have a problem with one of my friends. Everyone at my school keeps telling me a lot of bad stuff about her. I don't know who to believe.

My boyfriend doesn't like her because he has known her for a long time, and he says the stuff that the kids at school have been telling me about her is true. I really don't know what to do.

F.H.,

Dear F.H.,

Friends are not to abandon friends because of rumours. Sometimes people say bad things about others because of jealousy, envy or because they do not like them. So if this girl is your friend and you are not convinced that she is doing anything that is bad and will hurt your reputation by associating with her, continue to be her friend.

The problem you are having is not with your friend, it is the people (including your boyfriend), who would not mind their own business.

Pastor.
