Zekes' common-law wife charged

YVONNE 'BABY G' Salesman, the 47-year-old common-law wife of Donald 'Zekes' Phipps, was yesterday served with a summons to appear in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's court on June 14 to answer to charges of unlawful possession of $18 million.

Superintendent Denver Frater, who is attached to Kingfish Operations, told THE STAR that Salesman had been served yesterday morning following a question and answer session with the police.

"She was charged because she occupied the premises while the search was being conducted and therefore was in custody of the money," he said.

He added that while Phipps had been immediately charged, they had to conduct investigations before also charging his common-law wife.

The police report read out in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's court on Friday, May 27, stated that on May 18, a police team went to Zeke's residence in Highland Close, Kingston 19 and searched the premises in Saleman's presence. They recovered an iron chest containing J$8,359,650, US$152,185, £9,020 and Can $3,950 amounting to almost J$19 million.

Both Phipps and Saleman will be represented by Churchill Neita Q.C. Phipps is also charged with possession of ganja and abstracting electricity.
