Cop charged with perverting justice

By STEPHANIE ELLIOTT, STAR Writer

POLICE CONSTABLE OWEN McLeary is one of two persons charged with perverting the course of justice recently.

McLeary, who is stationed at the Clarendon Police Headquarter's Special Branch, appeared in the May Pen Resident Magistrate's Court with a woman, with whom he is jointly charged.

Allegations are the two conspired and wrote a retractment statement for a carnal abused victim in an effort to clear her offender of the charge.

The victim, said to be the woman's 11-year-old sister, refused initially to withdraw her statement. One was then forged and the woman, accompanied by McLeary, took it to a Justice of the Peace and had it signed as that of the small girl.

The sexual offender involved in the matter is reportedly the boyfriend of the woman.

Both accused had their bails extended and is booked to reappear in court on June 26, when their matter will again be mentioned.
