Man on assualt rap remanded

GILBERT MCLEAN, OF Swansea district, Clarendon, was remanded in custody when he appeared before Senior RM Glen Brown on May 26, 2005 to answer to the charge of assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest.

Investigating officer in the matter, Corporal Desmond Williams, told the court that on the day in question the police was summoned to a premises in Osbourne Store, Clarendon, to quell a dispute.

An officer was in the process of talking to the complainant, Morris Reid, when the accused used a stone to hit him.

The officer accosted the accused who then began throwing stones at the lawmen while letting out a string of expletives. The lawmen's attempt to arrest the accused was met with great reluctance.

An angry Mclean challenged the officers' evidence and denied having an altercation with them.

He was then remanded in custody and booked to reappear in court on June 26, 2005 when his matter will again be mentioned.
