Guns and ammunitions found in Lacovia

MORE THAN 100 rounds of assorted ammunition and an illegal weapon were seized in a police operation in Coffees Pen District, Lacovia, St Elizabeth on Wednesday.

According to police reports at about 9 am, members of a police team carried out an operation in the district. During the operation the officers searched an open lot where they found a 9mm Ruger P85 pistol with serial number erased and 110 rounds of ammunition consisting of 68, 9mm and 42, .38 cartridges.

No one has been arrested in connection with the find.

Meanwhile a Detective Corporal from the St. Andrew South Division was shot and injured during an operation at Mission Road, Kingston 13, also on Wednesday.

Police say at about 4:50 pm the police were conducting an operation in the area, when a group of men armed with guns were seen.

When the police approached the men, they opened fire and ran. It was discovered that the policeman had been shot. He was taken to hospital for treatment.
