A DISPUTE OVER the use of a bathroom has landed one man before the courts and the other in a funeral after the argument became violent.
Before the courts on a charge of murder is Devon Douglas of a Kingston 19 address. Douglas was charged arising from an incident which took place on May 9 this year.
According to allegations read out in court, on the day in question, the deceased was using the bathroom when the accused pulled the door to do the same. An argument developed and a fight reportedly followed. During the fight, both men were allegedly stabbed with the accused being hospitalised under police guard for 10 days while the other man was pronounced dead.
When the matter came before Resident Magistrate Martin Gayle, on Thursday, Douglas' attorney Hugh Faulkner applied for bail on behalf of his client. Faulkner told the court that his client was acting in self defence and that he had been in police custody since the incident.
Resident Magistrate Martin Gayle granted bail to the accused after it was revealed that the file surrounding the case was incomplete. Douglas was granted $100,000 bail with one or two sureties. A stop order was also placed on him. As a condition for his bail Douglas is to report to the Constant Spring police between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.
He will return to court on June 21 when the matter will again be mentioned.
