Nurse on bribery rap has bail extended

By ROMELL NEWBY, Star Reporter

JANET SPENCE, THE nurse who was charged in connection with attempting to bribe a patient who was raped by a doctor at the Victoria Jubilee Hospital, had her $300,000 bail extended in the Corporate Area RM Court on Thursday.

Spence appeared before Resident Magistrate Martin Gayle and her bail was extended until June 28.

The nurse is charged with perverting the course of justice. She is accused of attempting to bribe a patient with $500,000.

The patient was allegedly raped by a gynaecologist earlier this year.

It is alleged that the patient was fondled and sexually assaulted in the ultrasound room of the hospital on February 26. The matter was reported to the police and he was subsequently arrested and charged.

The doctor is also scheduled to appear in court on June 28. He is on $500,000 bail.
