A MAN WHO was extradited from Jamaica in March to face firearms charges in Bermuda was freed on Monday after a judge ruled that there was not a case for him to answer to.
Kenneth Clifton Bulford, 29, was accused of possessing an unlicensed 9 mm AP9 pistol as well as 20 rounds of 9-mm ammunition and five 3.75 Magnum bullets some time between March 1 and April 27, 2003.
Bulford fled Bermuda in July 2003 after being questioned by police in connection with the murder of college student Shaundae Jones.
With the assistance of the local fugitive apprehension team, he was found during a raid on a house in Kingston.
Bulford was escorted by members of the Jamaican police on a private jet to Bermuda to face the firearms charges in March.
But according to the Royal Gazette in Bermuda, Bulford was freed after Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner ruled that the evidence was not strong enough to constitute a prima facie case against him.
Meanwhile, VSB News in Bermuda reported that a key Crown witness, whose evidence was reportedly central to the case, decided at the last minute not to allow the evidence to be used in court. This severely damaged the Crown's case.
