A contestant on day two looking good in green and yellow combo on day two of the Rising Stars audition. And this young lady surely stood out on day one of the Rising Stars auditions last Saturday
BEING JAMAICA'S NEXT 'Rising Star' meant, for some, looking the part. And, many who turned out at the Cornwall Beach in Montego Bay last weekend to audition for the second season of the show, took that quite seriously. It was a weekend when talents paled considerably against eye-catching, sometimes eclectic outfits, when colours and styles fought for attention as much as the faltering voices trying to win a chance at stardom.
From perfectly coifed hair to natural shags, causal flip flops to dainty heels, starched pants to stylishly torn jeans the potential stars stepped out looking snazzy. Their styles were so en vogue that on Sunday afternoon, TVJ engaged a few of them in a mini fashion show.
One of the models was Mitsy Campbell. With natural hair worn in a loose afro, this hot stuff was casual, yet cute, in a green-trimmed yellow top, blue denim skirt and yellow and green low-heeled sandals.
A number of males were looking very trendy as well like the unsuccessful deejay whose hip, torn jeans had the judges joking that it seemed he had had a run-in with dogs. Another dapper fellow was Hugh Dawes, who on the second day of auditions, wore pinstriped pants with matching jumper and shoes. For the most part though, the classic casual wear for men was denim pants coupled with a cool looking top and comfy footwear.
There were also some very confident entrants who seemed to have dressed to kill with laughter, that is. One patriotic man, for instance, wore a large Jamaican flag super-hero style. Changa Changa was another head turner. Fern vest, banana bark kilt and flower-adorned head wear was his ensemble of choice.
Most creative
While Changa Changa could easily have won for the weirdest get-up, Andrea Sawyers deserved the title for most creative. One of 75 called back on Sunday, Andrea got thumbs up from the judges for her clever use of wraps. She created an elegantly ethnic look by draping a black wrap across one shoulder and tied a gold-toned one at her hip.
Combined with a dramatic wind-teased hairstyle, Andrea looked like she had just stepped off the runway, actually gaining Anthony Miller's approval for a well-thought out outfit.
For a few ladies though, their attempts at being fabulously fashionable came with hefty prices the discomfort of aching, swollen feet that had suffered punishingly long hours in sexy but very impractical stilettos, not to mention embarrassing and awkward gaits through the sand.
Angela Reid was one who bemoaned her choice of footwear. Sweetly draped in an earth-toned flirty dress, Angela, made a very unwise choice when she wore matching olive green heels that took a nasty toll on her feet. .
