LONDON, CMC
WEST INDIES BATTING star Brian Lara will captain the International XI in the Tsunami appeal match scheduled for Lords on June 14.
Lara, who recently lost the captaincy of the West Indies team, has been in superb form for the regional side, blasting two centuries against South Africa in the current Digicel Series.
Sachin Tendulkar, who has also captained India in the past, will skipper the opposing MCC side. Two current Test captains, in New Zealand's Stephen Fleming and South Africa's Graeme Smith have already agreed to appear in the 50-over fixture.
"I am sure that cricket fans will be thrilled by the prospect of seeing the best players in the world face each other in aid of a great cause at 'the home of cricket' this summer," Roger Knight, the MCC's Secretary and Chief Executive, said.
Lara and Tendulkar, two of the finest batsmen in the contemporary game, will also feature in another match at The Oval in England six days later, to raise funds for disaster relief including the tsunami appeal.
