A MAN WHO was slapped with seven charges was acquitted of two and five of them were withdrawn when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Monday.
It is alleged that on November 24, 2003, Damion Grant 26-year-old painter of Luke Lane, Kingston, was walking down King Street in downtown Kingston when three policemen accosted him and asked to search him. It is alleged that he refused and attacked them.
Grant, who was represented at trial by Nicole Hamil, was subsequently charged with malicious destruction of property, two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, indecent language, disorderly conduct, threat and possession of an offensive weapon.
Pleaded not guilty
He pleaded not guilty to the charge of malicious destruction of property and to the two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm of which he was later acquitted.
Presiding Resident Magistrate Norman Harrison ruled that the court is not in a position to feel sure about the allegations as there are too many inconsistencies with the police statements. As a result of this the RM withdrew the other charges.
