A MAN WHO appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's court to answer to a charge of simple larceny was slapped with an additional charge of assault, after he reportedly attacked his ex-girlfriend outside the court.
David Cook, who pleaded not guilty to the charges, is accused by his ex-girlfriend of stealing her jewellery and $14,000. "Ah lie she ah tell your honour ah she did have the ring dem at her house and talking bout is me have them," he said.
When RM Gayle asked Munroe who had purchased the rings, she said she did, and showed the receipts as proof of purchase.
Monroe and Cook were told to return to court on May 4 when the matter would be tried in the night court.
However, when the two left the courtroom, they returned almost half an hour later. Munroe said when she went into the parking lot, Cook attacked her. Cook, however, said he did not hit her first, but it was Munroe who attacked him and he defended himself.
Cook was offered $20, 000 bail, and was told that if he interferes with the defendant, he would be detained.
The assault charge will be tried on May 4 in the night court, as well.
