Fantan Mojah - file
Fantan Mojah was charged by the police for his language early Sunday morning following his performance at the Western Consciousness stage show in Westmoreland.
The Savanna-La-Mar police told THE STAR that the deejay, whose real name is Owen Moncrieffe, was slapped with charges of using indecent language after the show, but was granted bail and released that same morning.
Western Consciousness was held at the Llandilo Cultural Centre in Westmoreland on Saturday night, but stretched over into Sunday morning.
According to reports, at about 5 a.m. that morning, Fantan was allowed to give a brief performance on the show just before it was scheduled to end.
After the volume was cut from his microphone, Fantan reportedly asked them to turn it back up, after which he reportedly cursed expletives and accused them of fighting against Rastas, before leaving the stage.
Disgruntled patrons then threw bottles towards the stage, sending a few patrons scampering towards the front of the Llandilo Sports complex for cover. Other frightened patrons then reportedly rushed towards the exits, and during this rush, the police reportedly fired a few warning shots.
After leaving the stage, Fantan was then arrested by the Savanna-La-Mar police and charged with using indecent language.
When contacted yesterday, Fantan told THE STAR that he was set up for a fall. He said that his allotted time was cut short and he never got the same justice as other acts.
"Dem give me 15 minutes and den it cut down to five, how that fi go so? Only one tune mi can do with that," he stated.
"Mi never waa cause no offence to mi people dem, cause a dem mi come fi work fa, but dem get mi frustrated. After dem tun down mi mike mi seh a sabotage thing and den lef the stage. The people dem who come fi see me work get vex and mi only hear pure bottle a fling after that," he continued.
Fantan added that it was not his intention to curse, but he believed he was treated unfairly. He is scheduled to face the Savanna-La-Mar Resident Magistrate's court today.
