A JAMAICAN MAN who tried to get away with having two wives was jailed for bigamy yesterday by a judge in the United Kingdom, and that was not his only offence.
According to reports in the Scotsman newspaper, along with being in the UK illegally, the Jamaican used false names both times.
According to documents read out in the Bristol Crown Court, the Jamaican national, whose real name is believed to be Peter Delisser, was using the alias Peter Cohen when he married his first wife in 1998 before being deported.
Hitches
He then returned to Britain as Richard Hutchinson in 2001 and married Gillian Pavey two years later. The couple lived together in Bristol, but encountered one of many hitches in their married life - he had not yet divorced his first wife, Sally Weir.
Delisser, who appeared in court using the name Richard Hutchinson, admitted to being a bigamist, though he stated that the relationship between himself and his first wife was over he just failed to get a divorce. He was subsequently sentenced to four months imprisonment and may face deportation.
Judge Paul Derbyshire found none of his tale amusing: "It is clear from the papers your life has involved a great deal of deception over the years. "You have used at least two aliases and have been deported back to Jamaica. You are now illegally in the UK."
