A MAN WHO is alleged to have chopped off his father's left ear with a machete during a domestic dispute concerning a bag of excrement, was remanded in custody when he appeared in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court when he appeared on Tuesday.
Lindon Spence is however, denying that he chopped at his father's head and told the court that the older man's ear might have detached itself when they both "collided" during the early morning dispute.
The court heard that the men who lived in separate houses on the same premises at Moore Park in St James had a long-running dispute and things came to a head on April 17 at around 6:30 a.m.
It was heard that the elder Spence was in his house when he heard sounds outside and when he went to investigate and saw his son's stepson with a plastic bag and asked him where he was going with it.
It is understood that the boy told him it was filled with faeces and he was going to dump it into the toilet. The elder Spence, it was heard told him not to as it would "stink up the place."
Fighting
It is alleged that Lindon then approached his father with a machete and stones and accused him of "fighting against" him and threw the stones at him, but missed and hit the house instead.
The elder Spence then ran, the court heard, but his son chased him and chopped at his head with the cutlass, but missed and cut off his ear instead, before neighbours intervened and separated them.
The elder Spence was taken to the hospital, but lost his ear lobe and also suffered a laceration on the side of his head.
In court, Lindon said he and his father had had a long-running dispute and during the incident in question, his father attacked him, but the machete fell and when they were scuffling for it, his ear was detached.
Lindon was remanded and will be brought back to court on May 2 when his case will be mentioned.
