NUMBER ONE SEEDED team, Manchester High school was sent packing last night by number 16 seed Old Harbour High creating one of the biggest upsets of the 2005 TVJ Schools' Challenge Quiz competition.

Old Harbour High won the match with 36 points doubling Manchester High's 18 points.

"It's been a long time coming. The guys trained hard and worked hard for it," Ryan Fyffe, Old Harbour's team coach told THE STAR.

From round one it seemed Manchester was set to lose as they only scored two points from the round while Old Harbour set a winning pace by scoring ten points. As the teams moved into the minutes segment, Old Harbour was awarded an additional point for a question ruled wrong earlier in round one bringing its score to 11. In this section Old Harbour sought to build its lead by earning another 11 points within its three minutes to end the round with 22 points. Manchester used its minutes to try to close the gap in the scores and went quite close, scoring 14 points to end the round with 16 points.

As the teams moved into round three it was announced that both teams had lost and gained their scores.

As round three started Manchester was still within grasp of the win but failed to follow through. Old Harbour answered most of their questions correctly, while a good number of Manchester's attempts caused them to lose points instead of gaining.

The match ended with Old Harbour on 32 points, but after the commercial break a change in the scores was announced and Old Harbour's score was adjusted to 36 points.

Howard Thompson, coach of Manchester said the team got a bad start and that affected their performance in the match. "They were beaten by a good team. The first section mess them up and it gave them a bad psychological perspective," he said. Thompson said Old Harbour was a more experienced team and that helped them to win.

Sherene Walker, captain of the Old Harbour team said they will continue to work hard as they prepare for the next match. "We just take it one match at a time," she said.

In the next match Charelmont High will face Wolmers' Boys.

Old Harbour team: Sherene Walker (captain), Shawn Williams, Julio Maragh and Omar Morrison.

Manchester team: Omar Wellington, Melissa Anderson, Deon Flemmings, Raphael Ajodhia (captain)
