NO DOUBT BOGLE would have been touched were he around on Saturday to witness the tribute given him by his peers.
The Eclectic Fashion show, an appropriate a place as any, was the backdrop for a tribute to the late dancer.
With a launch that was as 'eclectic' as the dancehall icon was renowned, dancers, singers and members of the audience paid tribute to Bogle at Backyaad.
Candles lit
Candles were handed out in the earlier hours of the night and at the time when the official 'tribute' started, the lights were turned down and the audience asked to light their candles. Many did in a show of respect to the memory of the dancer. MC for the evening, Marc 'Quack' Ruddock remarked in getting the tribute going that Bogle was "somebody who has had a major impact on dancehall. He brought the dancing back into the dancehall", he said.
A dance group, Timeless, then came on stage to do a touching, yet very entertaining dance routine in tribute to Bogle. Many of their dance moves were those created and inspired by the dancer.
They were followed by Singer Kadian, who gave a brief yet heart-rending performance of one verse of Missing You, a song that was recorded in memory of another slain music legend, the Notorious BIG. The audience, at the end of Kadian's performance, responded with a resounding affirmation of the sentiments of the song.
Voisemail continued the tribute with Weh Di Time, a song they recorded with Bogle. At this point, they were joined onstage by the dancers again, who continued to imitate many of Bogle's moves. Later on, the Elite Dancers/ Black Bling would add to the tribute, though not intentionally, as they also performed some of Bogle's dance moves. Black Bling also brought an entertaining mix of other dances which included break dancing to the show, raising the entertainment value twofold.
Other performances came from Busy Signal, Jagwa and newcomer G Whiz.
