JAMAICA DEFEATED THE Windward Islands in the CLICO West Indies Under-15 tournament yesterday.
At the National Cricket Centre in Balmain, Couva, the Windward Islands had their winning streak snapped by Jamaica by one run, with two balls to spare. The Jamaicans batted first and led by a superb unbeaten 113 from Courtney Allen, totalled a challenging 207 for three in 45 overs. Allen's innings contained 17 fours off 129 balls and shared in an unbroken fourth wicket partnership of 141 with Adrian Morris who scored 49 off 89 balls with two fours.
Panic
The Windwards had good scores from allrounder Dalton Polius (37) lower-order batsman Dilorn Johnson (34) and stayed in contention to preserve their one hundred percent record in the series. Needing 11 runs in the final over, the last pair of Oscar George and Elton Joseph panicked going for the winning run, which resulted in the former being run out.
Defending champions Barbados won their last competitive match when they registered a hard-fought three-wicket victory over the Leeward Islands.
Playing at the Inshan Ali Park, Barbados limited the Leewards to 154 for six in 46 overs and then rattled up 157 for seven in 44.3 overs to win comfortably in the end.
In the Leewards innings, Keron Powell topscored with 55 off 92 balls, which included two fours and one six while a solid contribution came from opener Chesney Hughes with 30.
In reply, the Bajan youngsters, led by good scores from Peter Clarke (38), Renaldo Layne (33), Aubrey Towler (28), reached their target with nine balls to spare.
The final round of championship matches will take place on Friday, when Trinidad & the Windwards clash to determine the champions in the tournament.
