DESPITE HIS TEAM beating José Marti High School on Tuesday, St. Catherine High coach Errol Martin is far from happy.
Martin did not even smile as his team was declared 27-25 winners in the 14th Round 2 match of the TVJ Schools' Challenge Quiz competition.
"It wasn't a match; did you see a match? I just saw St. Catherine having a stroll," Martin said in a no nonsense mood after the match. "They just won the match because the judges gave it to them. I need them to know that I am very upset."
Mr. Martin's anger came as a result of what he thought to be a poor performance by his school.
In the first section José Marti was in the lead with eight points and St. Catherine ended on six. During the second section, José Marti gained 15 points and ended on 23, while St. Catherine gained 13 points ending on 19.
Though St. Catherine answered more questions in the final sections, they failed to command the section because they answered most incorrectly, and ended on 27, while José Marti ended on 25.
The captain of the St. Catherine team, Donald Smith, said, "We didn't play as well as we could have, and as one the questions in the match said, this was a pyrrhic victory."
The coach of the José Marti team, Austin McDonald, said, "The match was an excellent one, and Jose Marti played very well. We will be back for next year, that's for certain. We want to thank the administration and academic staff for helping the team in their endeavours."
