Sandy Bay shock Village 2-0

Howard Walker, Staff Reporter

SANDY BAY OF Hanover shocked Premier League outfit Village United 2-0 to join Harbour View, Rivoli and Waterhouse with first leg advantages in third round Red Stripe Champions Cup Knockout action yesterday.

Goals by Melville Donald (43rd) and Sydney Reagan (65th) gave Sandy Bay a two-goal cushion over Village ahead of the return leg.

Scares

Defending champions Waterhouse survived a couple scares and got by Boys' Town on a 1-0 own-goal win at Collie Smith Drive.

In the late game at Compound, Harbour View were forced to come from behind in a 2-1 win over St. George's. Goalie Randal Huie netted a 33rd minute penalty but Harbour View rallied in the second-half through goals from Jomo Gordon and Luton Shelton.

In the evening's only all-Premiership clash, Rivoli United defeat Wadadah FC 3-1 at the Spanish Town Prison Oval courtesy of a double strike from Marvin Henry.

Henry opened the scoring in the 14th minute and three minutes later Omar Gordon doubled Rivoli's lead. Henry afterwards popped up to give the home team a comfortable 3-0 lead in the 65th minute.

Daniel Ricketts scored a scorcher from 30 metres to reduce the deficit in the 87th minute, giving the MoBay-based team a glimmer of hope for the return leg set for Jarrett Park on April 6.

Extra police

With Rivoli cruising to victory, Lincoln 'Happy' Sutherland, president of the St Cartherine Football Association ensured the press that today's game between Newlands of Portmore and Tivoli Gardens will be boosted by extra police presence.

The last time Tivoli played at the Spanish Town Prison Oval a riot broke out in the stands among rival spectators.

"A special security presence will be here," said Sutherland. Superintendent Arthur 'Stitch' Martin has been asked to beef up security so that it will deter those who will be coming to the game with other intentions," he added.
