PATRICIA JONES IS pleading for help to send her three children to school. She says she used to live in Spanish Town, but had to leave because of the violence in the area.
"I had to leave, and go to live in St. Elizabeth with a family member, then two months after that I had to move back up here, but because of the violence again, we had to leave. After that I went to Manchester and lived with my cousin, and now it hard on me, because I can't get anything," she said
Jones, 44, who is a single mother, says she broke up with the children's father more than six years ago, and she has not heard from him.
The three girls, Paula-Kaye, 11, Peta-Kaye, 11, and Patricia White, 10, used to attend the Eltham Park Primary School while living in Spanish Town. After relocating to Manchester, the girls briefly attended the Bryce All-Age School, but stopped because she could not afford to send them there.
To add to Jones' problems, her house and most of her belongings were damaged during Hurricane Ivan. "The roof blow off and most of the things spoil, so I had to dump and burn most of them," she said.
Jones, who used to be a janitor at a church, says she is in dire need of a job, but she would be happy to receive a sewing machine to assist her. "I would want like a second-hand machine to help me, so I could sew the children's school clothes and for other people, so that would take off some of the stress," said Jones.
