MATT MYRIE, THE doctor charged with sexually assaulting a patient at the Victoria Jubilee Hospital was granted bail when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.
Myrie, 31, was given $500,000 bail when he appeared before Resident Magistrate Martin Gayle on Thursday. Myrie is facing charges of two counts of rape and two counts of indecent assault arising from an incident which took place at the Victoria Jubilee Hospital on February 26.
When the matter came up for mention, Myrie's attorney Hugh Thompson again applied for bail, stating that the reasons his client should not be granted bail were up to the crown. The investigating officer said the file was complete and the witness was at a secure location where there would be no contact with the accused.
As a result, Resident Magistrate Martin Gayle granted the accused bail with one, two or three sureties. As a condition for his bail, Myrie is required to surrender his travel documents and a stop order was placed on him. In addition, he is required to report to the Matilda's Corner Police every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.
He is to reappear in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's court on April 11 when his preliminary enquiry is expected to begin.
Allegations before the court are that on February 26, the complainant was a patient at the hospital at which time the doctor took her docket to the ultrasound room and summoned the complainant. While there, he reportedly fondled the patient and had sex with her on two occasions.
The matter was reported to the police and the doctor was arrested and charged after investigations were carried out.
