Stage Name: Junior Reid
How did you get started in the business?
"On my corner, Wailer Corner in Waterhouse, amongst me sistren and brethren. Ma youth club in the neighbourhood use to keep fund-raising concert, the members of the club use to pay for who they want to stay on-stage. Away from the singing on sound system in the area, sound like Studio Mix Sound, Master Blaster, Lees Unlimited and King Jammys. Hugh Mudel identify my talent, take me in the studio, Harry Jay Studio, lay down the track Speak the Truth. The following week we went and voice it at King Tubbys' studio and when it came out it went to number six on the pre-release chart in England, that's how it start. Following that came out Know My Self for the same producer, then that was officially released on Greensleeves label in England.."
What has been your greatest challenge in the business yet?
"Well it's to set up yuh own independent label, JR Label, and having out hits upon hits, keeping myself current so I can tour all over the world. Right now I'm in Japan, me and ma two sons Wadada Blood and Andrew Blood on a two weeks Japan Tour, touring the Rasta Government album and also promoting singles for the upcoming album."
What have you been up to lately?
"I just produce three rhythm called Buzz Wana. On that rhythm we have Warrior King, Camanchie, Wadada Blood, Andrew Blood, Turbulance and myself. We also have the version to the Drop Leaf called The Tree, with a tribute to Jah Cure... and another rhythm call Wanted with Junior Reid and Buju Banton."
Are you happy with your musical career presently?
"I don't really deal with career, is just the works still yuh nuh...,"
Anything you'd want to change about it?
"No I wouldn't want to change nothing at all, because it's all perfect and it's taking its own time growing to the best of the best 'cause from the day I start to sing until now I never cross-tread, drop off my line. I maintain my direction and as a Rasta Man I have to set example and I have to sing songs. I can sing in front my grandmother, grandfather, mother, father, children and woman."
What can we expect from Junior Reid in the future?
"Positive music, music of love and over-standing, music that brings and unite people and party music such as One Blood, Foreign Mind, Banana Boat Man, John Law and songs like those."
What's your advice for upcoming artistes?
"Be careful of what you sign because you might sign your own death warrant and be careful of the damagers who say they are manager and the booking agents because they are 'tooking' agents."
