The girl with stars in her eyes

Dear Pastor,

I feel like I am a waste! Why? Because I am constantly failing.

I have never succeeded in doing anything and even if I did once in a while, it was not one of the things that made history.

I am a 16-year-old girl and I am very depressed about my career path. I really want to be a pilot and an actress at the same time. I have this strong urge that God is continually sending messages to me that I can become a star and that I have that true inner glow. I really want to be a celebrity. I don't want to be just another little girl. I would like to be like Halle Berry, perhaps even Nicole Kidman, etc.

I would like if you could give me some advice on how to go about becoming a good and successful person. You are my only hope because to tell you the truth, I really do not have anyone to tell my dreams.

Uptight girl

They all feel like I can't because I have always been this uptight little girl. I want to prove to the world and myself that I can be anything that I want to be. I also need to mention that I have attended Visual Arts classes at Edna Manley School of Visual and Performing Arts in the summers. I have plans to attend drama classes there this summer too. Do you feel this will be of any help?

M. M.,

Kingston, Jamaica

Dear M. M,

I don't want to discourage you in anyway. It is good to have high goals and objectives and to work towards them.

In today's world, even if one is talented, one has to have training and to seek a good education. So make sure that you do not try to cut corners. Stay with the books. Pass your subjects. Go on to college or university. Do your extra-curriculum activities. As you study and work hard people will recognise your talents and help you to make the right choices.

Always be positive. Keep away from negative people. Be respectful and co-operative. If you want to be a leader, be a follower first. Put your trust in God. Never leave Him out. Don't waste your time talking against people, use that time to study and pursue your goals. The most powerful person is the one who serves.

Pastor.
