A PURE AND positive fire consumed the Convent of Mercy Academy, Alpha girls school yesterday, when Fantan Moja, the Star's Artiste for the month of March made a rare appearance at the school in tandem with the FAME school rules programme.
Before Fantan could reach the auditorium, he was surrounded by students in the parking lot, seeking autographs, CDs or posters.
After his ten-minute stop in the parking lot, Fantan, armed with his signature red back pack over his shoulders and a microphone in hand, made his way into the jam-packed auditorium. He received a loud but modest reception from the females.
Fantan took the stage doing tunes like 'Search', 'Hungry', 'Hail di King' and 'Feel di Pain'.
"Mi seh uno fi get up an jump," Fantan shouted, but the students, who were expected to be on their best behaviour, tried to act as sedately as they could. The only leverage that they allowed was to sing along to Fantan's songs, word for word at the top of their voices, while rocking in their seats. Some occasionally jumped to their feet when Fantan ordered them to.
After Fantan's energy-filled set on stage, it was over to the FAME disc jocks, Alric and Boyd and the Captain, Colin Hinds, to deliver some musical vibes on the turntables, while Paula-Ann Porter briefly interviewed Fantan over the air.
Before leaving the Alpha school, Fantan, however, had to indulge his fans who were by this time eagerly waiting in a long queue for him to sign more autographs.
The vibe and energy of the occasion was positive, and according to Fantan, the Alpha girls showed him nothing but love.
"A bare love. Dem love di vibe, positiveness mi teach dem an dem respond to it. Di slackness nah guh work an dem welcome mi properly. Mi love Alpha girls dem. Fantan Mojah seh suh."
