DEAR PASTOR,
I am 19 years old and I read your column every chance I get. The problem I am having is animosity at the office where I work. This is my first job, as I recently graduated from college. I was looking forward to entering the working world, but now I have numerous regrets.
The problem is that the position of administrative officer became available at the office, and as usual, interested persons were asked to apply. The secretary, who has been with the company for several years, was asked to apply for the post. She declined, saying that she didn't think she should apply since she has been working there for so long. She was not qualified for the position and was asked to return to school to obtain the necessary qualifications for the post, to which she declined.
Disagreement
When another person filled the position, the secretary, as well as other persons in the office turned against her. I am now caught in the crossfire, as both sides are coming to me whenever there is a disagreement between them.
I do not wish to work there any longer. I cannot stand these people. They are all between the ages of 35 and 55 and I think that I am way too young have to deal with these issues, when all I went there to do was work.
Please tell me where I can get a loan, because I am planning on pursuing my B.Sc. in Nursing at Excelsior Community College and the Students' Loan Bureau does not fund that course. Leaving this job and going home is not an option, as I have to help take care of my family and it is very hard to find another job.
May God bless you always.

Dear M.F,
Keep your nose clean. Don't get involved. If you give your opinion on any matter or any dispute among workers in the office, what you say is likely to be misunderstood and you may end up getting fired. You are there to work. Do your best. You are not there to settle disputes.
I must warn you do not walk away from your job. Jobs are hard to find, and if you have to leave, make sure you resign in the correct way. By that I mean you should give the appropriate notice, etc.
