A MAN WHO told the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court that "Almighty God is my lawyer" had his bail extended to March 17 when he will face trial on assault charges for allegedly beating a woman with a machete.
Leacroft Harry, an elderly rastafarian man with graying locks, was told to report to the night court where his trial will be held. However. the accused told the court he was 'afraid of the night court' as his life had been threatened by the complainant.
Senior Resident Magistrate for St. James, Ms. Winsome Henry, advised him to report the threats to the police.
The allegations are that on October 11 of last year, at approximately 4:30 p.m., in Lottery District, St. James, the complainant and Harry's wife had a dispute.
It was heard that Mr. Harry turned up with a machete which was used to beat the complainant causing swelling and bruises to her right hand and back.
Harry was arrested and charged for assault occasioning bodily harm and was released on $50,000 bail.
